Our Junior section is overseen by a Junior Committee Chaired by our General Manager, Steve Scott-Bowen, a PGA Professional. Our PGA professional coaching team plays a very active part in growing our junior section and are passionate coaches who deliver a comprehensive, fun, and engaging coaching programme that aims to identify and develop young talent for both new non-member juniors via the academy coaching sessions and our junior members.
We currently have boys and girls on the county teams and many other fine players in our ranks. Our professionals can give personal tuition to all the boys and girls and arrange a full programme of matches for them to experience competitive golf in a friendly environment.
Golf is one of the best sports in the world and offers many benefits, including keeping fit and active, improving mental health and well-being, teaching young people social skills, and increasing career opportunities.
We are committed to junior golf and believe it is our duty to ensure we equip all prospective members with the skills and knowledge required to get the most out of their membership and help them develop into lifelong golfers.
Prospective junior members who apply will be asked to attend an assessment with one of our PGA professionals. This assessment has been designed to help us understand the young person's current ability level and basic knowledge of the game. There will be three outcomes from this assessment.
If the junior has been a member of another club with a WHS handicap, they will be eligible to join the Club in the Eagles category.
If the Junior is deemed to have the ability and knowledge required to be able to play on a golf course but does not have an official WHS handicap, they may join the Club on the Birdies category.
If the professional feels the junior needs more support before becoming a member they will be invited to attend our junior academy golf lesson programmes using the Junior Golf Passport structured learning Programme.
